Bank of Beirut, founded in 1963, is a commercial bank based in Beirut, Lebanon. The bank began life in 1963 as Realty Business Bank, before changing its name to Bank of Beirut in 1973.

It expanded rapidly in the 1990s when it acquired several other banks; it was first listed on the Stock Exchange in 1997. The bank now has more than 90 branches, across four continents. The UK subsidiary, Bank of Beirut (UK) Ltd, was established in 2002 and now has additional branches in Frankfurt, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Bank of Beirut Products and Services

Bank of Beirut works with individual and corporate customers in Lebanon, Africa, Europe, Australia, North America and the Middle East. Services include:

  • Current accounts
  • Savings accounts
  • Loans (personal, educational, housing, small business, and motor)
  • Overdrafts
  • Short-term advances
  • Trade finance facilities (letters of guarantee, letters of credit, drafts)

The bank also offers its customers an extensive range of additional services, including:

  • Child education and housing programmes

  • Insurance products including home, lost income, travel and life insurance
  • BoB finance / Western Union services

The bank also has an extensive portfolio of services for corporate and business clients. These include e-commerce gateway services, payments and transfers and payroll and demand services.

Security at Bank of Beirut

Bank of Beirut has an extensive online security statement which can be viewed in full at their website. This statement covers customer data usage by the company, and measures that the bank has in place to keep money safe.

For online transactions, the bank uses VISA / Mastercard 3D Secure, an extra security step for online shopping designed to prevent card details from being stolen or used without authorisation.
